Open a ZAP file without TIA Portal
A .zap file (.zap15_1, .zap17, .zap19 and so on) is a TIA Portal project archive: the
whole project folder packed into one file, the number saying which TIA Portal version saved it.
TIA Portal only opens archives from its own version or older ones, and only after a full
installation. Upload the archive here and read the project in a browser or on paper instead.
What comes out
- A printout (PDF) with the hardware, every block with its interface and networks (LAD and FBD drawn, SCL and STL as code), data blocks with their values, tag tables, watch tables and a cross reference.
- An offline viewer (HTML): one file with the project tree, the drawn networks and a search box for tags, addresses and comments.
- Block sources for SCL and STL blocks, data blocks and PLC data types, and the tags, block interfaces and cross reference as CSV and Excel.
Archives saved with TIA Portal V11 to V20 have been tested, with S7-1200, S7-1500, S7-300, S7-400 and ET 200SP CPUs. Every PLC in the archive is read, and HMI devices are listed with their screens and tags.
Things to know
- Only the archive is needed. The
.zapfile holds everything; there is nothing else to add. If you have the unpacked project folder instead, zip the folder (with itsSystemfolder) and upload that. - The
.apfile alone is not a project. A file likeConveyor.ap17holds the project's name and settings. The program lives inSystem/PEData.plfnext to it. - Protected blocks stay closed. Know-how protected blocks are listed with their names, but their code is stored encrypted and is not shown.
- A broken download (an archive cut off while copying or mailing) gives a message saying the archive is incomplete, rather than a partial printout. Copy the file again from its source.
