Look through a Siemens PLC project in your browser
The PLC project came on a USB stick with the machine, the integrator mailed a .zap archive, or
the project was saved with a newer TIA Portal than the one on your laptop. Open it here and click
through it the way you would in the project tree: every block with its LAD and FBD networks
drawn, the tag names and comments above each operand, SCL and STL code, block interfaces, data
blocks with their values, tag tables, watch tables and text lists. Nothing needs to be installed.
What it opens
| Program | Files | Versions read |
|---|---|---|
| TIA Portal project archive | .zap11 to .zap21 | V11 to V20 tested |
| TIA Portal project folder | the folder with the .ap* file and its System folder, as a .zip; or System/PEData.plf alone | V11 to V20 tested |
| STEP 7 (SIMATIC Manager) project | the project folder with the .s7p file, as a .zip, or a STEP 7 archive | V5.5 to V5.7 tested |
| STEP 5 program | the .S5D program file, with its Z0.SEQ symbol file if you have it | S5D files |
Choose several files at once when a project comes in pieces, for example the .S5D file with its
symbol file. The .ap17 (or .ap18 and so on) file alone holds only the project's name and
settings: the program is in the System folder next to it, so zip the whole project folder.
What you can do
- Browse the project tree: PLCs, program blocks in their folders, technology objects, PLC data types, external sources, tag tables, watch and force tables, text lists, HMI devices with their screens, tags and alarms, and the hardware with CPU types and order numbers.
- Read a block: LAD and FBD networks are drawn with rails, contacts, coils, boxes and wires, with network titles and comments. SCL and STL blocks show their code with colours for keywords, comments and operands. Switch between the drawn networks, their statements and the block's source, and zoom the drawings.
- Search block names, titles and comments, network code, interface members, tags and table entries. Results lead straight to the network or line.
- Follow the cross reference: click a tag, an address or a local variable in a drawing, a line of code or a tag table to see every network and line that reads or writes it. For a block you see which blocks call it or use it as their instance data. Back and Forward take you through where you have been.
- Print and export: print what is on the screen, download a single block's source (SCL, STL, data block or data type), or make files of the whole project: the printout (PDF), all block sources (ZIP), an Excel workbook with blocks, interfaces, tags and the cross reference, and an offline viewer (HTML).
- Compare two versions: every added, removed and changed block, network, interface member, data value, tag, comment and hardware item, with changed networks drawn before and after. The comparison also comes as PDF and Excel.
What is not shown
The app is a viewer: it does not change programs or download them to a PLC. Know-how protected blocks are stored encrypted, so they are listed with their names and interfaces but not their code. S7-GRAPH sequences are listed with their interface, and their networks say that the sequence is not shown. HMI screens are listed, not drawn. A STEP 7 network built in a way that cannot be drawn is shown as STL and marked so.
On a phone the app works for reading: the project tree opens with the Contents button.
Privacy
The project is processed on our server only to show it in the app and to make the files you ask for. The app loads what the server made from it into your browser in parts, and those results are deleted automatically after 30 minutes; after that, parts the app has not loaded yet can only be shown by opening the project again. Each export and comparison sends the project once more. Project names, tag names and comments never go into our statistics.
