Open a STEP 7 project without SIMATIC Manager
STEP 7 V5.x (SIMATIC Manager) projects for S7-300 and S7-400 are still in thousands of machines,
but the software needs an old Windows and a licence, and many laptops no longer have it. The
project is a folder: the .s7p file plus subfolders that hold the blocks, the symbol table and
the hardware. Zip that whole folder and upload it here.
What comes out
- A printout (PDF): the stations with CPU type and order number, every block with its interface and networks, the symbol table and a cross reference.
- LAD and FBD drawn again from the compiled code: contacts, coils, branches, timers (S_PULSE, S_ODT and the others), counters and boxes with the symbols and comments above each operand. A network the tool cannot draw is shown as STL and marked so.
- STL blocks as statements, with international (A, AN, O) or German (U, UN, O) instruction names: the project's language decides, or pick one under the options.
- Block sources (
.awl) in the form STEP 7 compiles back, data blocks with their actual values, the symbol table as CSV and Excel, and an offline HTML viewer with search.
Projects saved with STEP 7 V5.5 to V5.7 have been tested, including STEP 7 archives that hold more than one project.
Things to know
- The
.s7pfile alone is not enough. It is only the entry point; the blocks are in the folders next to it. Zip the folder that holds the.s7p. - A STEP 7 archive (a
.zipmade by File, Archive) can be uploaded as it is. - Know-how protected blocks are listed with their names, but their code is not shown.
- Comparing with a TIA Portal migration works too: upload the STEP 7 project and its TIA Portal version together to see what changed.
