Convert PSD to PNG without Photoshop
Need to see or share a Photoshop file but don't have Photoshop? A PSD stores, next to its layers, a merged picture of the whole document. The converter reads that picture and saves it as a PNG (or JPG, WebP and other formats).
- Upload one or more
.psdor.psb(large document) files, or a ZIP of a folder. - Keep “PNG” to keep transparency, or choose JPG for a smaller file.
- Click Convert.
What is supported
- Colour modes: RGB, greyscale, CMYK, Lab, indexed colour, duotone, multichannel and bitmap.
- Bit depths: 8 and 16 bits per channel (16-bit documents become 16-bit PNGs), and 32-bit HDR documents, which are converted to normal colours.
- Transparency of documents without a background layer.
- The colour profile embedded in the document.
- Large documents (PSB), up to 130 megapixels.
“Maximize Compatibility”
The merged picture is only written when Photoshop's “Maximize Compatibility” option was on when the file was saved, which is Photoshop's default. If it was off, the file contains only layers, and you get a clear message instead of a blank picture. Open the file in any program that reads layers and save it again with the option on, or export a PNG from there.
Good to know
- Layers are not exported one by one: you get the document as it looks with every visible layer merged.
- CMYK documents are converted to RGB with a simple formula; colours of print documents may shift slightly compared with a colour-managed conversion.
- Photoshop's text layers, smart objects and effects are included as they looked when the file was saved, because they are part of the merged picture.
