Open Clip Studio Paint files anywhere
A .clip file only opens in Clip Studio Paint. If you have moved to Photoshop, Procreate,
Krita or Affinity, lost your licence, work with someone who doesn't use Clip Studio, or just
want your old illustrations and comic pages out of it, this converter reads the .clip file
itself and gives you the picture and every layer in formats any program opens.

The result page shows the picture and a table of every layer with its kind, blend mode, opacity, mask and clipping, so you can check the conversion before downloading.
What is kept
- Layers and folders, bottom to top as in Clip Studio, with Japanese, Chinese and accented names intact. Folders set to Through stay pass-through groups; closed folders stay closed.
- Blend modes: all of Clip Studio's modes have a Photoshop equivalent except Glow dodge and Add (Glow), which become Color Dodge and Linear Dodge (Add) and are listed in the notes.
- Opacity, visibility, locks (lock and lock transparency), layer masks (also disabled ones) and clipping (Clip to layer below), which Clip Studio and Photoshop combine the same way.
- Layer colour: layers shown in a layer colour (such as a blue sketch) keep that colour.
- The paper layer becomes a normal layer of the paper's colour. Choose Transparent to hide it and get a PNG with a transparent background.
- Correction layers (Brightness/Contrast, Level correction, Tone curve, Hue/Saturation/Luminosity, Color balance, Reverse gradient, Posterization, Binarization and Gradient map) become editable Photoshop adjustment layers.
- Gradient and fill layers, image materials (placed or tiled pictures), comic frame folders (with the frame shape as the folder's mask and the frame border as its own layer) and speech balloons are rebuilt from their settings.
- Draft layers and the story information layer are kept but hidden, because Clip Studio leaves them out of exports too.
Vector and text layers
Clip Studio often saves vector and text layers without a picture of them and draws them again when the file is opened. Those layers are drawn here from what the file does contain: vector lines with a round brush of the right size, text with its size, colour, direction, rotation and line and letter spacing, edge and background in the font you used if it is available on our server, otherwise a standard font. Brush textures, the exact look of the font and ruby (reading) text can differ, and the notes name every layer this applies to. The border (outline) effect is drawn into the layer; screentone is drawn as dots or lines at the tone's frequency, which is close but not identical to Clip Studio's.
For the whole-picture PNG, Clip Studio's own picture of the canvas is used whenever the file holds it at full size, so it looks exactly as in Clip Studio, including vector and text layers. For large canvases Clip Studio only stores a smaller picture; then the PNG is combined from the converted layers.
Open the result in another program
- Photoshop, Photopea, Affinity Photo: open the
.psd. Everything stays editable, including the adjustment layers. - Procreate (iPad): send the
.psdto the iPad and open it from Procreate's gallery with Import. Procreate imports layered PSD files; features it doesn't have, such as adjustment layers, may be left out or flattened by Procreate. - Krita, GIMP: open the
.psd. Folders, masks and most blend modes come along. - Anything else: use the PNG, or the ZIP of layer pictures.
Privacy
Your .clip file is used only for the conversion and deleted as soon as it finishes. The
converted files are kept only so you can download them and are deleted after 30 minutes.
