Convert Clip Studio Paint files for Krita
Krita doesn't read .clip files, but it opens layered PSD files well. Converting your Clip
Studio illustration or comic page to a PSD keeps the layer structure, so you can go on working
in Krita instead of starting from a flat picture.
How to do it
- Upload the
.clipfile and download the.psd. - In Krita, use File → Open and choose the PSD.
What Krita receives
- Layers and folders (Krita's groups), in the same order and with the same names.
- Opacity, visibility and blend modes. Krita supports nearly all of them, including Linear Burn, Vivid Light, Pin Light, Hard Mix and Darker/Lighter Color.
- Layer masks, which appear as Krita transparency masks.
- Clipping (Clip to layer below) is written as Photoshop clipping masks.
- The canvas size and resolution.
Clip Studio's correction layers are written as Photoshop adjustment layers; Krita has its own filter layers and may not keep adjustment layers from a PSD, in which case they are missing in Krita but present in Photoshop. The PNG of the whole picture shows how the page looked in Clip Studio.
Comic pages
Frame folders arrive as groups whose mask is the panel shape, with the panel border as a separate layer above them. Speech balloons, text and vector inks are pictures in Krita: when Clip Studio didn't store them as pictures, they are drawn here from the file's data, and the notes name those layers.
