Convert AVIF to JPG
AVIF is a newer picture format that gives very small files, and more websites and phones save pictures in it. Many programs, print services and upload forms still only take JPG. Converting makes the picture usable anywhere.
- Upload one or more
.aviffiles, or a ZIP of a folder. - Keep “JPG / JPEG” and quality 90.
- Click Convert.
What happens to the picture
- Rotation and mirroring stored in the AVIF file are applied, so the JPG is the right way up.
- Transparency: AVIF can have see-through areas; JPG can't. They are filled with white, or the colour you enter under More options. Convert to PNG or WebP to keep transparency.
- HDR and 10-bit AVIF pictures are reduced to the 8 bits per colour a JPG holds. For the full depth, convert to PNG, which keeps 16 bits.
- The colour profile is kept; camera info and location are removed unless you keep them.
File size
A JPG is usually larger than the AVIF it came from, because AVIF is the more efficient format. Quality 90 keeps the JPG looking like the original; 75–80 gives smaller files that still look good for most photos. You can also shrink the pictures in pixels with “Also shrink to” under More options.
Animated AVIF
Animated AVIF files give their first picture. For animations, WebP and GIF are the formats this converter can keep moving.
The AVIF pictures are decoded with libheif and the dav1d AV1 decoder, running as a separate program on our server with a time limit.
