Convert HEIC to PNG
PNG is lossless: once a HEIC photo is decoded, a PNG stores every pixel exactly, with no further quality loss. That makes it the right choice when you will edit the picture again, need transparency, or want the full colour depth of a 10-bit HEIC.
- Upload
.heicor.heiffiles, or a ZIP of a folder. - Keep “PNG” selected.
- Click Convert.
What you get
- Upright pictures: the rotation and mirroring stored in the HEIC file are applied.
- Transparency is kept for HEIC pictures that have it, such as cut-out subjects and stickers.
- 16-bit PNG for 10-bit photos: HEIC photos recorded with more than 8 bits per colour (often HDR photos) become 16-bit PNGs, so smooth skies and shadows don't get banding from the conversion itself. Ordinary 8-bit photos become ordinary 8-bit PNGs.
- Colour profile kept, camera info and location removed unless you keep them under More options.
PNG or JPG?
PNG files of photos are large, often many times the size of the HEIC. That is the price of storing every pixel exactly. For sharing, email or a website, JPG (or WebP) is usually the better choice; for editing, printing or archiving, PNG is.
A HEIC file with several pictures in it (a burst or a collection) gives its main picture. The video part of a Live Photo is not included.
The conversion uses libheif, the open-source HEIF library, running as a separate program with a time limit on our server; nothing needs to be installed on your computer.
