Move a Premiere Elements project to Premiere Pro
Premiere Pro doesn't open Premiere Elements projects (.prel), and Premiere Elements has no
export for Premiere Pro. When an edit outgrows Elements, it usually gets rebuilt by hand.
What this tool does
Upload the .prel file. Every sequence in it is written as a Final Cut Pro 7 XML, which Premiere
Pro imports with File > Import: the sequences come in with every track, the clips at their
frames and in points, speed changes, transitions, position, scale, rotation, crop and opacity,
linked to the same media files. DaVinci Resolve reads the same XML (File > Import > Timeline), and
CMX 3600 EDLs and an OpenTimelineIO file come with it.
Effects, titles and audio levels made in Elements stay behind; the result page lists each effect with the number of clips that use it, so you know what to redo. The media list names every file the project uses and where it was.
A damaged Elements project
If Premiere Elements says the project can't be opened, upload it too: what is still in the file
is read, and a repaired .prel comes back when the project can be rebuilt. Premiere Elements
writes the project's main bin near the end of the file, so a save cut off well before its end
can't be rebuilt; then an Auto-Save copy is the way back. Those are in the "Adobe Premiere
Elements Auto-Save" folder next to the project; upload the newest few together with the project.
