Free document converters: Office, Mac and old formats
Converters for office documents, and for documents made with programs you may no longer have. Files from desktop programs of the last thirty years are often kept for good reasons (letters, reports, budgets, newsletters, certificates and forms), but the program that made them is gone from the computer, no longer sold, or only on someone else's Mac.
The document converter turns Word, Excel and PowerPoint files into PDFs, brings old .doc, .xls and .ppt files into DOCX, XLSX and PPTX, and opens Apple Pages, Numbers and Keynote files, WordPerfect, Microsoft Works, Lotus 1-2-3, ClarisWorks and AppleWorks documents and Visio drawings. The Publisher converter opens Microsoft Publisher .pub files from Publisher 95 to Microsoft 365 and turns them into PDF files, page pictures or drawings you can edit in LibreOffice Draw, an open-source program for Windows, Mac and Linux. Upload one file or a ZIP of folders with hundreds: the result keeps the same folders.
Every conversion comes with a report: what each file is, its pages and page size, which fonts were replaced and by what, and anything else that may look different, so you know which files to check while the original program is still around.
