Office documents and old files, converted
Turn Word, Excel and PowerPoint files into PDFs that open and print the same everywhere, bring
old .doc, .xls and .ppt files into today's formats, or rescue documents from programs you
no longer have: WordPerfect, Microsoft Works, Lotus 1-2-3, ClarisWorks and AppleWorks, and
Apple's Pages, Numbers and Keynote. Upload one file, several, or a ZIP of your folders: the
result comes back with the same folders and file names.

The format is recognised from the file itself, so a .doc that is really an RTF file, or a
.docx that was renamed, is still converted correctly. A Publisher .pub file goes to the
Publisher converter, which is made for it.
Spreadsheets on pages
A wide sheet printed as it is gets cut into strips of columns spread over many pages. By default every sheet is fitted to the width of the page instead, so each row stays together; a file that sets its own print scaling keeps it. You can also keep the page breaks set in the file, or put each sheet on one page as large as the sheet.
The report: what to check
Every job comes with a report, shown on the page and as report.html (and as a spreadsheet,
report.csv, with several files). For each file it lists the format that was recognised, the
number of pages and the page size, a small picture of the first page, and every font the
document uses with the font it was shown with. Arial, Times New Roman, Courier New, Calibri and
Cambria are replaced by fonts with the same letter widths, so lines and pages break where they
did; other fonts get a replacement with other widths, and those files are marked Converted,
please check. Files whose converted pages come out empty are flagged too.
Safe to open
Documents are converted with what they contain themselves. Macros are never run, links to other files and to web addresses are not followed or updated, and embedded objects are shown as the picture the document stored of them. Password-protected documents can't be converted: passwords are not asked for.
How it works
The files are converted on our server with LibreOffice and the open-source import libraries of the Document Liberation Project (libwpd, libwps, libmwaw, libetonyek, libvisio). Each job runs in its own locked-down workspace.
Privacy
Uploads are deleted as soon as the job finishes, and the results after 30 minutes (or at once with Delete now). Nothing is kept, shared or used for anything else.
