Moving from Scrivener to Obsidian, Ulysses, iA Writer, Zettlr or a Git repository usually means compiling to MultiMarkdown first, which needs Scrivener. Upload the project instead and get Markdown files straight from it: one for the whole manuscript, and one for every document.
What the Markdown looks like
- Headings from the binder's folders:
#for the top level,##for the next, and so on. - Bold, italic and
strikethrough, links, lists and tables (as pipe tables). - Footnotes as
[^1]with their text at the end, the form Obsidian, Pandoc and MultiMarkdown read. - Comments kept in CriticMarkup: the commented words as
{==words==}followed by{>>the comment<<}, and inline annotations as{>>note<<}. - Pictures saved as image files next to the Markdown, with relative links.
* * *between scenes, as a section break.
Folders like the binder
The documents ZIP keeps the binder: a folder for every binder folder, files numbered in binder
order (01 Chapter One/02 The Storm.md), the document notes next to each document as
02 The Storm (notes).md, research PDFs and pictures under their binder titles. It is ready to
drop into an Obsidian vault.
Synopses and metadata
Synopses, labels, status, keywords, custom metadata and dates are in the binder outline (CSV and Excel) rather than in the Markdown files, so the text files stay clean.
Choose Markdown only under the advanced options to leave out the Word and RTF copies of every document.
Results are deleted after 30 minutes.
