Compare two CX-Programmer projects
A machine was changed during commissioning and nobody wrote down what. The program in the PLC differs from the copy on the server. A supplier sends a new version of a project. To see what changed without clicking through both projects side by side, upload the older version first and the newer one under "Second version to compare".
What the comparison shows
- Programs and sections added or removed, changed tasks, and changed section order.
- Rungs: each section's rungs are matched by their instruction lists, so inserted and deleted rungs do not make everything after them look changed. Every added, removed or changed rung is drawn before and after.
- Structured text and SFC charts: changed lines, as before and after.
- Function blocks: added and removed blocks, changed variables and changed bodies.
- Symbols: new and removed symbols, new addresses or data types.
- Comments: changed rung, section, program and symbol comments are listed under their own heading, so a documentation update is easy to tell apart from a logic change.
- Units and saved memory values of the PLC.
The report comes as a PDF, an HTML page and an Excel workbook with one row per difference and where it is. The result page lists the number of differences by area and the first of them.
Which files
Any two of: CX-Programmer projects (.cxp), projects saved as text (.cxt), library files
(.cxr) and zipped project folders. The two can be in different formats, for example a .cxp
and the .cxt saved from it.
Things to know
- Each project is also read on its own, so you get the full printout of the first one with the comparison.
- Rung numbers in the report are those of the newer project; a rung that moved says where it was.
- Protected programs and function blocks are compared by name and variables only, since their content is not read.
