When Procreate says a drawing is invalid or corrupt, or an imported .procreate file comes up
blank, the usual answer is that nothing can be done. A .procreate file is a package of the
layers' tiles and a description of the layers, and a damaged package often still holds most of
the tiles. This page reads what survived and gives it back as a layered Photoshop file (PSD), a
full-size PNG and every layer as a PNG.
What can be recovered
- A package cut off while copying or syncing: every tile that was copied before the cut.
- A lost or damaged description of the layers: the layers are rebuilt from their tiles, which are stored by layer. Names and order are lost with the description; the layers are numbered.
- Damaged tiles in single layers: the rest of the layer is kept and the damaged parts are left transparent; the result page names the layers that were affected.
An .icloud placeholder or a 0-byte file holds nothing of the drawing: download the real file on
the device that has it first.
How to use it
- Upload the
.procreatefile (from the Files app, a computer or a backup). - Check the picture and the list of recovered layers on the result page.
- Download the PSD and import it in Procreate, or open it in Photoshop, Krita or GIMP.
Undamaged Procreate files can be converted with the Procreate to PSD converter.
