Designs bought or made for xTool lasers come as xTool Creative Space .xcs files or xTool Studio
.xs projects. RDWorks, the software of most Ruida CO2 lasers, opens neither. This page turns
them into RDWorks .rld projects with the layers set up from the xTool settings.
How to convert XCS to RDWorks
- Upload the
.xcsor.xsfile. - Under More options, pick your laser's bed size (the design keeps its distance from the top-left corner, as in xTool's canvas).
- Check the preview and the layer table, download the
.rldfile and open it in RDWorks V8.
What carries over
- One RDWorks layer per xTool processing setting: cuts and scores become RDWorks cut layers, fill engraving becomes scan layers, bitmaps become picture layers.
- Power, speed and passes as set in the xTool file, the line interval of fills and pictures, and whether a layer is output.
- Shapes at true size, with groups kept; text arrives as outlines; pictures come along.

xTool machines are diode, infrared or low-power CO2 lasers, and their power percentages mean something else on a Ruida CO2 laser: the numbers are copied, but they will almost always need new values. Set speed and power in RDWorks for your tube and material, and test on scrap first.
xTool-specific settings without an RDWorks counterpart (the light source of dual-laser machines, material presets, relief and other special processing modes) are not carried over. RDWorks processes layers in an order fixed by their colour; the converter keeps the xTool order by choosing colours accordingly, and the table shows which xTool layer each RDWorks layer came from.
For a LightBurn file instead, use the xTool converter on this site.
