RDWorks imports SVG drawings, but every import lands on whatever layers the colours happen to
match, at a size that depends on how the SVG was saved. This page turns the SVG into an RDWorks
.rld project at the size the SVG states, with one RDWorks layer per colour.
How to convert SVG to RLD
- Upload the
.svgfile. - Under More options, pick your laser's bed size (the design keeps its distance from the top-left corner of the bed).
- Check the preview and the layer table, download the
.rldfile and open it in RDWorks V8.
How the SVG becomes RDWorks layers
- Colours become layers. Red outlines become a cut layer, outlines in other colours become line (score) layers, filled shapes become scan (engrave) layers. Each gets the nearest RDWorks colour.
- Settings: the layered SVGs Tooladoo's laser converters write carry speed, power, passes and interval per layer; those are used. Other SVG drawings get RDWorks' default settings, and the result tells you to set power and speed in RDWorks.
- True size: millimetres, inches, points and the document's viewBox are respected, so the design arrives at its real size.
- Text is turned into outlines with the font named in the SVG when the converter has it, or a standard font (the result says when).
- Pictures embedded in the SVG become RDWorks pictures; linked picture files cannot be reached and are left out.
Before you cut
RDWorks processes layers in an order fixed by their colour; the converter keeps the SVG's layer order by choosing colours accordingly. Check every layer's speed and power in RDWorks and test on scrap.
Converting the other way? Upload an RDWorks .rld file on the same page to get an SVG back.
