An RDWorks project (.rld, V7 or V8) or Ruida job (.rd) to convert to LightBurn, SVG and DXF; or a LightBurn (.lbrn2, .lbrn), xTool (.xcs, .xs) or SVG design to turn into an RDWorks project.

    Options

For .rld and .rd uploads: all three formats come from the same conversion; pick one if you only need that file. LightBurn, xTool and SVG uploads always become an RDWorks project.

    Engraved areas in .rd jobs

A job only holds the scan lines of engraved areas, not their shapes. As a picture they engrave the same way in LightBurn; as lines you get the job's own scan lines. Projects (.rld) are not affected.

Lists every layer with its settings below the drawing, on its own layer. Delete it before cutting.

Only for LightBurn, xTool and SVG uploads. xTool and SVG designs keep their distance from the top-left corner of the bed, so pick yours (also for LightBurn projects made for a machine with its origin at the back or on the right).

The width of your laser's work area, as set in RDWorks.

The height (depth) of your laser's work area, as set in RDWorks.

Your files are deleted after processing.

Many Ruida CO2 lasers are run from RDWorks, and RDWorks cannot open LightBurn projects. Exporting from LightBurn as AI or DXF brings the shapes across but loses every layer setting. This page writes the RDWorks project itself: upload a .lbrn2 (or older .lbrn) file and get an .rld file that RDWorks V8 opens with the layers already set up.

How to convert LightBurn to RDWorks

    1. Upload the .lbrn2 or .lbrn project.
    2. Check the preview (drawn from the RDWorks file, read back) and the table of RDWorks layers, which names the LightBurn layer each one came from.
    3. Download the .rld file and open it in RDWorks with File → Open.

    What carries over

    • Layers: one RDWorks layer per LightBurn layer, processed in LightBurn's order.
    • Speed and power, minimum and maximum, for laser 1 and laser 2, passes, air assist and output on or off.
    • Fill layers become scan layers with their line interval, direction (X or Y) and bidirectional setting, ramp length and "fill shapes individually".
    • Line layers become cut layers; overcut becomes RDWorks' seal, Cut Through pauses become laser open and close delays with through power, dot mode and perforation become RDWorks' dot mode, and a frequency override is kept.
    • Fill+Line layers become RDWorks scan layers with "cutting after sweeping" and the line's speed and powers.
    • Image layers become RDWorks picture layers; grayscale or pass-through images use RDWorks' direct output.
    • Shapes, text and pictures at true size and at the same place on the bed: LightBurn and RDWorks both measure from the front-left corner. Text is written as outlines.

    Colours

RDWorks has 20 layer colours and processes layers in an order fixed by their colour. The converter picks the closest colours that keep LightBurn's order, so a layer may have a different colour in RDWorks than in LightBurn; the table shows which is which.

    What is left out

LightBurn features RDWorks has no layer setting for: tabs, kerf offset, cross-hatching, offset fills (they are scanned line by line), fill angles other than 0° and 90°, and image modes other than threshold, dither and grayscale. The result lists the ones your project uses. Check speed and power in RDWorks and test on scrap before cutting.
