An SVG is the easiest way to get an RDWorks design into Inkscape, Illustrator, a cutting
plotter's software or another laser program. This page turns an RDWorks .rld project, or a
Ruida .rd job, into a layered SVG at true size.
How to convert RLD to SVG
- Upload the
.rldor.rdfile; Convert RDWorks files to is preset to Layered SVG. - Check the preview and the layer table.
- Download the SVG and open it in Inkscape, Illustrator or your laser software.
What the SVG contains
- Millimetres. The document is sized in mm, so the drawing imports at its real size.
- One layer per RDWorks layer (an Inkscape layer, which other programs show as a group), named after the mode and colour ("Cut #FF0000"). Cut layers are drawn as outlines in the layer colour, scan layers as filled shapes.
- Layer settings as data: each layer carries its speed, powers of both lasers, passes and interval as attributes, and a legend below the drawing lists them (switch it off under More options).
- Shapes keep their curves; groups stay groups; virtual arrays are drawn out copy by copy.
- Text is the letter outlines RDWorks saved, so it looks the same without the font.
- Pictures are embedded in the SVG.
The SVG page fits the drawing with a small margin, and the objects keep their places relative to each other. For the exact bed positions use the LightBurn file or the DXF.
From an .rd job
A job holds the laser's moves, not shapes: cuts come back as lines and engraved areas as a picture built from the job's scan lines, or as the scan lines themselves (More options). Layer colours and settings come from the job.
Need another format?
The same conversion also gives a LightBurn project and a DXF; choose LightBurn, SVG and DXF to get all three at once.
