Use VCarve, Aspire and Cut2D projects in other CNC and design software
Vectric's programs save their projects as .crv (VCarve, Cut2D) and .crv3d (Aspire) files,
and only Vectric's programs open them. Carbide Create, Easel, Fusion, LightBurn and Inkscape
cannot import a .crv, and the Vectric software you need may be on someone else's PC, in a
version you don't have, or not available for your computer at all. This converter reads the
project file directly and gives you its vectors as true-size SVG and DXF files, and its 3D model
as an STL, without any Vectric program.
What you get
| You upload | You get |
|---|---|
A VCarve or Cut2D project (.crv) or an Aspire project (.crv3d) | an SVG and a DXF of the vectors, the 3D model as STL and height map when the project has one, preview pictures and the thumbnail Vectric saved in the file |
- True size, in the project's units. Coordinates are Vectric's own, in millimetres or inches as the project was set up; the SVG page is the material block (larger when the drawing reaches outside it).
- One layer per Vectric layer, with its name and colour, in both the SVG and the DXF. Layers hidden in Vectric are left out, as in Vectric's own view; choose Also hidden layers under More options to include them.
- Exact geometry. Lines and arcs stay lines and arcs (true arcs in the SVG, bulges in the DXF), Bézier curves stay curves in the SVG and become fine polylines in the DXF.
- Text arrives as outlines, laid out as in Vectric (alignment, kerning, line spacing, text on a curve or turned), so the font is not needed. It can no longer be edited as text.
- Dimensions become their lines, arrows and labels. Shapes bent with the envelope tool of older versions arrive in their bent form.
- Pictures placed in the project (traced photos, logos) are embedded in the SVG at their position and size.
- Sheets and sides. Projects with several sheets, or with a top and a bottom side, give one SVG and DXF per sheet or side, in a ZIP, because they share the same coordinates.
- The 3D model. For an Aspire project, or a VCarve project with an imported 3D model, you also get the model as a closed STL solid in millimetres and as a 16-bit greyscale height map, with a shaded preview. It is the combined model Aspire shows.
The result page shows the converted drawing next to the thumbnail Vectric saved in the file, so you can compare them, with a table of the layers, the texts found and the toolpaths of the project.
Supported versions
Projects from VCarve Pro, VCarve Desktop, Aspire, Cut2D and PartWorks, from VCarve Wizard 2 (2005) and VCarve Pro 3 up to version 12.5, including the Trial, Makerspace and ShopBot editions.
What is not converted
- Toolpaths. They depend on your machine, bits and material and can't be carried to other CAM software. The result lists them, with their names and kinds (profile, pocket, V-carve, drilling…) where the file records them, so you can set them up again. Toolpath previews drawn in Vectric are left out.
- Guide lines and other construction aids that are not vectors.
- 3D details: the STL is the model sampled at up to 400 points on its longest side, and the height map keeps up to 4096 pixels. Areas of the model's rectangle without any model are at height 0. The settings of individual 3D components (how they combine, their shapes before combining) are not exported, only the result.
- Pictures in the DXF: the DXF holds outlines only.
