Use Camtasia recordings in Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve
Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro and DaVinci Resolve all fail on .trec files: the media is offline,
or the clip has sound but no picture. They lack TechSmith's screen codec. Convert the recordings
to MP4 here, then import the MP4 files like any other video.
For editing
The default "For editing" timing writes every frame at the recording's frame rate (usually 30 frames per second). Camtasia only stores a frame when the screen changes; editors handle a constant frame rate better, so cuts land exactly where you expect.
Moving a whole Camtasia edit
If you also want the edit you made in Camtasia, convert the project with the
Camtasia project converter. Keep the MP4 files' names: the
converted project points to name.mp4 next to each name.trec, so it relinks by itself.
Large recordings
Wide or 4K screens make large files. Choose "At most 1080 lines" to scale the picture down for faster editing and smaller files; the text stays readable at that size for most screens.
Privacy
Results are deleted automatically after 30 minutes, or straight away with "Delete now".
