Convert Camtasia Studio .camrec recordings to MP4
Camtasia Studio (up to version 8) saved recordings as .camrec files: a container holding the
screen as an AVI in TechSmith's TSCC codec, the camera and sound as further streams, and a small
manifest with bookmarks. Without Camtasia Studio installed none of it plays, and Camtasia 2020
and later no longer open .camrec files at all. Upload the .camrec files (or a .zip of the
folder) and get MP4 videos back.
What you get
- The screen as an H.264 MP4 at its original size and frame rate.
- The camera as a separate MP4 when one was recorded, and the sound in the MP4 (or on its own).
- The bookmarks set while recording, as a CSV list of times and names, when there are any.
Old recordings often have sizes like 1024 x 768 at 15 frames per second; the MP4 keeps them, at a constant frame rate for editing (the default) or as recorded.
