Speeding up a video makes a long process short: a recipe, a drawing, a drive, a sunset or a screen recording. Choose how much faster it should play; the sound either stays in step with the picture or is removed.
How to speed up a video
- Upload the video (MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI, WMV, MPEG, TS and more; up to 2 GB).
- Effect: Change the speed and 2× (twice as fast) are already chosen. The other faster speeds are 1.25×, 1.5×, 3× and 4×.
- Under Sound, keep the sound or remove it.
- Start, and download the faster video.
What you get
- Length: the result is shorter by the same factor. A 10-minute video at 2× lasts 5 minutes; at 4×, 2 minutes 30 seconds.
- A normal frame rate: frames that are no longer needed are left out, so the result plays at the video's own frame rate (up to 60 frames per second) instead of an unusually high one that some players can't show.
- Sound at its normal pitch: the sound is sped up with the picture without the high voices that come from simply playing it faster. At 3× and 4× speech is hard to follow, and removing the sound is often better.
- Format: MP4, MOV, MKV and WebM stay in their format; other formats become MP4. The video is re-encoded at high quality, and upright phone videos stay upright. Only the main sound track is kept.
Limits
Uploads can be up to 2 GB and 3 hours. How long a video can be depends on its size and frame rate: at 2×, a 1080p video at 30 frames per second can be up to about 40 minutes long, a 720p one much longer. For more than 4×, run the result through the tool again: two 4× passes make 16×.
Tips
- To speed up only the slow part, cut it out first with the video trimmer.
- To slow a video down instead, choose 0.75×, 0.5× or 0.25× under Speed.
