Flipping a video mirrors the picture. Front cameras often record a mirrored image, so text on a sign or a shirt reads backwards; flipping it horizontally puts it the right way round. A vertical flip turns the picture upside down as in a reflection, and both together turn it upside down without mirroring.
How to flip a video
- Upload the video (MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI, WMV, MPEG, TS and more; up to 2 GB).
- Effect: Flip and Horizontally are already chosen. Under Flip, pick:
- Horizontally to swap left and right (a mirror image),
- Vertically to swap top and bottom,
- Both, which looks the same as rotating by 180°.
- Start, and download the flipped video.
What you get
- Every frame mirrored, at the video's own size and frame rate.
- Upright phone videos are turned upright first, so "horizontally" always means left and right as you see the video.
- Sound: the main sound track is kept, unchanged where the format allows. Stereo sound is not swapped between left and right.
- Format: MP4, MOV, MKV and WebM stay in their format; other formats become MP4. The video is re-encoded at high quality.
Flip or rotate?
A flip makes a mirror image; a rotation turns the picture without mirroring it. If a video plays sideways, use Rotate instead. If it is upside down, Rotate 180° and Flip both give the same result.
Limits
Flipping re-encodes the whole video: about 25 minutes of 1080p video at 30 frames per second fit in one job, longer for smaller videos. Cut a long recording first with the video trimmer.
