Camtasia project to Final Cut Pro
Camtasia for Mac and Final Cut Pro sit on the same computer, but there is no way to send an edit
from one to the other. Convert the Camtasia project (.cmproj, zipped) here and import the
.fcpxml file into Final Cut Pro with File > Import > XML.
How the edit is laid out in Final Cut Pro
Final Cut Pro has no tracks, so each Camtasia track becomes a connected storyline above (or, for sound, below) an empty primary storyline as long as the project. Clips keep their place in time and their order, transitions sit between clips in their storyline, groups become compound clips and callouts with text become Basic Title titles. Captions become SRT captions and markers become markers. Speed changes are retimed clips, zooms and pans are keyframed transforms.
Before importing
- Compress the
.cmprojfolder in Finder (right-click > Compress) and upload the.zip. - Turn the
.trecrecordings into MP4 with the Camtasia recording converter; Final Cut Pro cannot read.trecfiles. - After importing, choose File > Relink Files if Final Cut Pro shows media as missing.
