The .tscproj file (Camtasia 9 to 2026, Windows or Mac), a .cmproj project from a Mac or a project exported with File > Export > Project as Zip, uploaded as a .zip, or a Camtasia Studio .camproj (Studio 3 to 8). The recordings and media themselves are not needed.

    Groups

Nested sequences keep each Camtasia group as one clip you can open, as in Camtasia. Laid out flat puts their contents straight onto the timeline, which the EDLs always do.

Other editors cannot open .trec recordings. Point to MP4 copies with the same name (made with the Camtasia recording converter or exported from Camtasia), or keep the .trec paths.

    More options

Where the recordings and media will be on the computer you edit on, for example D:\Videos\Course or /Users/me/Movies/Course. Leave empty to keep the paths Camtasia used.

Keep subfolders when the folder holds the same subfolders as on the Camtasia computer; all in one folder when every media file was copied into the folder itself.

Your files are deleted after processing.

    Camtasia project to DaVinci Resolve

DaVinci Resolve imports timelines from XML but not from Camtasia. Convert the Camtasia project here and import the result into Resolve with File > Import > Timeline.

    Which file to use

    • The .fcpxml file (Final Cut Pro XML 1.10) keeps Camtasia's tracks as separate tracks, groups as compound clips, text callouts as titles and markers as timeline markers. It is the first choice for Resolve. For subtitles, import the -captions.srt file onto a subtitle track.
    • The -Premiere.xml file (Final Cut Pro 7 XML) works in Resolve too, with nested timelines for groups.
    • The .otio file opens in Resolve 18.5 and later, and in other tools that read OpenTimelineIO.

When Resolve asks, leave "Automatically import source clips into media pool" ticked and point it at the folder with the recordings. Resolve cannot decode Camtasia's .trec recordings either: convert them with the Camtasia recording converter first; the converted timeline already points to the MP4 files.

    What to expect

Cuts, clip order, speed changes, positions and zooms, volume and fades come across. Camtasia's own effects (cursor effects, shadows, behaviours) and shape callouts do not, and are listed in the report that comes with the files.

    Privacy

Results are deleted automatically after 30 minutes, or straight away with "Delete now".
