An xTool Creative Space project (.xcs), an xTool Studio project (.xs), a LightBurn project (.lbrn2 or .lbrn) or an SVG drawing.

    Options

Automatic: .xcs becomes LightBurn + SVG; LightBurn and SVG become .xcs.

    More options

Only used when an .xcs file is created. “Keep” uses the machine saved in an xTool file, otherwise a D1 Pro.

Hidden xTool layers and objects are kept as layers that are switched off (not output).

Lists every layer with its settings below the drawing, on its own layer. Delete it before cutting.

Your files are deleted after processing.

LightBurn can't open .xcs files, the projects saved by xTool Creative Space. That's a common snag when a design bought online comes only as .xcs, or when you switch to LightBurn. This page turns the project into a LightBurn .lbrn2 file with its layers and laser settings, so you don't have to rebuild it from an SVG.

How to open an XCS file in LightBurn

    1. Upload the .xcs. Projects from Creative Space 1.0 through 2.7 work, as do xTool Studio files, including its .xs format.
    2. Convert to is preset to LightBurn project (.lbrn2).
    3. Compare the preview with what you expect: drawing, design size, and each layer's power, speed and passes.
    4. In LightBurn, load the downloaded .lbrn2 with File → Open. A note appears on opening to remind you that the settings were copied from the original file.

    What arrives in LightBurn

Each processing setting in the xTool file becomes a LightBurn layer in the Cuts / Layers window, named after the original:

    In xToolIn LightBurn
    Cut, scoreLine layer
Fill engraveFill layer, with the line interval
Bitmap engraveImage layer, grayscale or Jarvis dithering

Power (%), speed (mm/s) and passes are copied 1:1, since both programs use those units, along with kerf and minimum power where the file has them. Rectangles and ellipses stay rectangles and ellipses, curves stay editable, and groups stay grouped. Text comes in as the outlines xTool saved, so no fonts are needed. Engraving images are embedded.

Layers that were hidden in xTool are kept with output switched off. Tick Output in LightBurn if you want them, or untick Include hidden objects under More options before converting.

    Before you press Start

The settings belong to the machine the design was made for, which the preview names (for example an F1 or a P2). A diode, an infrared module and a CO₂ tube need very different values for the same material. Adjust power and speed for your laser, frame the job and cut a test piece on scrap.

A few xTool-only processes can't be expressed in LightBurn. Colour engraving, intaglio, relief, blade and pen jobs arrive as ordinary engrave, cut or score layers, with a warning.

Converting a purchased design doesn't change its licence; what you may produce and sell is still up to the seller's terms. Going from LightBurn to xTool instead? Use LightBurn to XCS.
