LightBurn can't import EZCAD files. If you are moving a fiber or galvo laser from EZCAD2 to
LightBurn, redrawing every job by hand takes days. This page turns an .ezd project into a
LightBurn .lbrn2 file with its layers and laser settings already filled in.
How to convert an EZD file for LightBurn
- Upload the
.ezdfile. Convert to is preset to LightBurn project (.lbrn2). - Check the result: the converted drawing is shown next to the preview EZCAD saved in the file, with a table of the layers and their power, speed, frequency and passes.
- Open the downloaded file in LightBurn with File → Open.
What arrives in LightBurn
| In EZCAD | In LightBurn |
|---|---|
| A pen used for outlines | A line layer in the pen's colour |
| A hatch | A fill layer with EZCAD's line spacing, angle, direction and cross-hatching |
| A ring hatch | An Offset Fill layer |
| Hatch with "mark contour" | The fill layer plus a line layer for the outline |
| A picture | An image layer |
Each layer gets the pen's power (%), speed (mm/s), loop count as passes, pulse frequency, Q pulse width, laser on, laser off, end and polygon delays, jump speed, jump delays and wobble, in the fields LightBurn uses for galvo lasers. Text, barcodes and QR codes come in as outlines, so no fonts are needed.
Positions are kept too. EZCAD puts 0,0 at the centre of the lens field and LightBurn at a corner, so the drawing is moved by half the field size (110 mm unless you enter yours under More options).
Fill layers or EZCAD's own hatch lines?
The default keeps shapes editable: LightBurn calculates the hatch itself from the copied settings. If a hatch uses EZCAD features LightBurn's fill settings can't express, such as edge offsets or contour loops, the result warns you. Then choose Exact hatch lines: the lines EZCAD computed are converted as they are, no longer as an editable fill.
Before the first job
Settings are copied unchanged. Check every layer against your laser source and lens, frame the job and mark a test piece on scrap. A few EZCAD pen options have no LightBurn layer field (end compensation, acceleration, vector point mode); the result page lists them when your project uses them.
