Files from FileMaker Pro 3 to 6 do not record their character set. Automatic tells Mac and Windows files apart; pick another one if accented letters look wrong. Files from FileMaker 7 and later are always read correctly.

Your files are deleted after processing.

.fp7 is the file format of FileMaker Pro 7 to 11, used from 2004 to 2012. Those versions no longer run on current Macs, and FileMaker 12 and later only open an .fp7 after converting it. If all you need is the data in a spreadsheet, upload the file here: it is read directly, without FileMaker, and every table becomes a sheet of one Excel workbook.

How to convert an .fp7 file to Excel

    1. Upload the .fp7 file (or several, if your solution is split over a data file and an interface file).
    2. The preview lists every table with its number of records and fields, and shows the first records of the biggest one.
    3. Download the Excel workbook. The CSV, SQLite and JSON versions come with the same conversion.

    What the workbook contains

    • One sheet per table, named after the table, with the field names as a frozen, filterable header row. Excel's sheet-name rules (31 characters, no / \ ? * [ ] :) are applied, and the preview tells you when a sheet name differs from the table name.
    • A Fields sheet listing each table's fields with their type (text, number, date, time, timestamp, container), whether they are normal, calculation or summary fields, their repetitions and how many records have a value.
    • Numbers from number fields are real numbers, so sums and filters work. Text typed into a number field stays as text instead of being lost.
    • Pictures and files from container fields go into a separate ZIP; the sheet shows each record's file name in it.

    Limits to be aware of

    • Excel holds at most 1,048,576 rows per sheet: a bigger table continues on a second sheet named "Table (2)". The CSV and SQLite files keep it in one piece.
    • A cell holds at most 32,767 characters. Longer texts are cut in the workbook only, and the result says how many were cut.
    • Unstored calculations and summary fields are computed by FileMaker on screen and are not in the file; they are listed on the Fields sheet but have no column.
    • If your solution keeps its data in a separate file, the interface file alone has no records: upload the data file too.

The upload is deleted as soon as the conversion finishes and the results are deleted after 30 minutes.
