.fmp12 is the file format of FileMaker Pro 12 and every version since, up to FileMaker 2025.
Exporting from FileMaker means opening the file, going to each table's layout and running
File > Export Records once per table. Here you upload the file and get a CSV for every table in
one ZIP, without FileMaker installed and without a password for the file's accounts.
How to convert an .fmp12 file to CSV
- Upload the
.fmp12file. - Check the table list in the preview: each table with its record and field count.
- Download "CSV files (ZIP, one per table)" and unzip it.
Each CSV is named after its table and has the field names in the first row. Files are UTF-8 with a byte-order mark, so Excel, Numbers, LibreOffice and Google Sheets show accents, Cyrillic, Greek and Japanese correctly; commas, quotes and line breaks inside values are quoted the standard way.
How values are written
- Exactly as stored. A CSV is plain text, so every value appears as FileMaker kept it, including leading zeros in codes and line breaks inside notes.
- Dates, times and timestamps keep the form they were stored in, for example
8/28/2026or18/11/2023 07:16:25. When importing into another database, set the date order to match. - Repeating fields get a column per repetition:
Phone,Phone [2],Phone [3]. - Container fields show the path of the extracted picture or file in the container ZIP that comes with the result.
- Records with every field empty are kept as empty rows, so the record count matches FileMaker's.
Pitfalls
- FileMaker computes unstored calculation and summary fields on screen; they are not in the file, so they have no CSV column. Stored calculation results are exported.
- Files encrypted with Encryption at Rest cannot be read. An account password alone does not stop the conversion.
- Container files kept outside the database ("store container data externally") are not in the
.fmp12file, so they cannot be extracted from it.
The upload is deleted as soon as the conversion finishes and the results are deleted after 30 minutes.
