Open, check and convert swim meet files
Swim meets run on a handful of file formats that only meet software understands: Hy-Tek's HY3 and CL2, the US SDIF standard, and Lenex from SPLASH, EasyWk and swimrankings.net. This tool reads all of them without the software that made them. You can see what is inside, check a file before importing it, fix the checksum errors that make Team Manager reject a hand-edited file, and convert between the formats.

A Hy-Tek database (.mdb), a PDF of results or a web page cannot be converted: ask the meet
host for the export.
What the preview shows
- The meet: name, dates, course, pool, host, which program wrote the file and when.
- Counts of teams, athletes, events, entries, results and relay teams.
- A validation report: every line with a wrong checksum or a wrong length (with its line number), files that were cut off, missing terminator records, duplicate athletes, ages that do not match birth dates, relays without all four swimmers, and split times that go backwards or past the final time.
- Preview tables of results, relays, entries, events and athletes.
What you can download
- Excel workbook with sheets for results (place, time, splits, reaction time, DQ reason), relays with their four swimmers, entries with seed times, events, athletes and splits. Times are real Excel times, so they sort and add up. Results (or entries) and relays also come as UTF-8 CSV.
- Lenex (
.lxf) for SPLASH Meet Manager and Team Manager, EasyWk and swimrankings.net. - SDIF (
.cl2) with Hy-Tek checksums, for Team Manager and other US team software that imports SDIF. - HY3 with valid checksums, for Team Manager and Meet Manager.
- The repaired original: your HY3 or CL2 file, unchanged except that every checksum is recalculated, shortened records are padded back to full width, the incomplete last record of a cut-off file is dropped and a missing CL2 terminator is added.
Fixing a checksum error
Every HY3 and CL2 line ends with a checksum over the rest of the line. When someone corrects a name or a time in a text editor, the checksum no longer matches and Team Manager refuses the file. Upload it, choose Repaired original, and import the downloaded file instead. The report lists the lines that were changed, so you can check the edits were intended. If characters were typed into a line (making it longer than a record), the columns after them have shifted: that line is left as it is and flagged, because only you know what it should say.
Hy-Tek's checksum is weak: some one-digit edits leave it unchanged. A clean report means the checksums are consistent, not that nobody edited the file.
What changes between formats
- Lenex has no diving and needs a birth date and the meet city. Diving events are left out; when a US export has only ages, 1 January of the matching year is used; HY3 files do not store the city, so enter it under “Meet city for Lenex”. Lettered events such as 26A get whole numbers.
- HY3 and SDIF have fixed-width columns: long names and team names are shortened, and special swim styles are left out. SDIF has no reaction times, and relay splits can only be stored for legs whose swimmer is known.
- The result page lists everything that was shortened or left out.
Good to know
- Tested with files from Hy-Tek Meet Manager 3, 7 and 8, Team Manager 2.1, 7 and 8, TeamUnify, WinSwim, SPLASH Meet Manager 2007 and 11, SPLASH Team Manager 10, EasyWk and swimrankings.net.
- Converting an undamaged HY3 or CL2 file to its own format gives back the identical file, checksums included.
- Your upload is deleted as soon as the conversion finishes; the converted files are deleted after 30 minutes or when you click Delete now. Swimmers' names are never stored or used in our statistics.
