You were sent a .studio3 file, or downloaded one with a design, and there is no Silhouette
Studio on your computer. You don't need to install it to see what the file contains: upload it
here and you get a picture of the design, a list of what is in it, and the design itself as SVG
and DXF.
What you see after uploading
- A preview picture of the whole design on its Silhouette page, with colours, text and pictures.
- The Silhouette Studio version that saved the file, and the page size and orientation (for example Letter landscape or 12 × 12 in).
- A table of layers and objects: each object's layer, name, type (text, group, rectangle, path…), whether it is cut or print only, its line and fill colours and its size in mm. Text objects show their text.
- Counts of layers, objects, shapes, text objects and pictures.
What you can download
- An SVG at true size, which Inkscape, Cricut Design Space, LightBurn and web browsers open.
- A DXF in millimetres for CAD and laser programs.
- The preview PNG.
Why other programs can't open .studio3
The .studio3 format belongs to Silhouette Studio and is not published. Double-clicking the
file on a computer without Silhouette Studio does nothing useful, and renaming it to .svg
does not work either: the file is a binary format, not an SVG. This converter decodes the format
directly.
Before you cut
The converted files are exactly the design as it was saved. If the design was made for a Silhouette Print & Cut job, the pictures are in the SVG and the registration marks can be added under More options, but other machines use their own marks. Check the size in your cutting program before you cut, and keep to the designer's licence.
