Edit a LightBurn project in your browser
LightBurn saves its projects as .lbrn2 (and older ones as .lbrn). Laser Studio opens both in a web browser: useful on a computer where LightBurn isn't installed or licensed, or to prepare a job before you get to the machine.
Opening and editing
- Open the
.lbrn2or.lbrnfile with File > Open, or drop it on the canvas. Each LightBurn layer becomes a layer with the same colour, mode (line, fill or image) and settings: power, speed, passes, line interval and dithering. - Edit the design: draw new shapes, change sizes to the tenth of a millimetre, add text in your own fonts, weld script lettering, combine shapes, make an offset outline, or copy objects in a grid.
- Save as
.lbrn2and open the file in LightBurn with File > Open. LightBurn shows a short note about where the file came from.
Moving between machines
LightBurn runs many different lasers, and so does the file you save here. The same design can also be saved as an xTool .xcs project for xTool Creative Space or xTool Studio, or as an RDWorks .rld project for Ruida-controlled CO2 lasers. Layers keep their purpose and their settings in every format, so you only need to check that the power and speed suit the new machine and material.
Good to know
- LightBurn's "Fill + Line" layers open as fill layers, and offset fill as a normal fill.
- Combined and offset shapes are made of short straight segments, which lasers follow without trouble.
- The app prepares files; LightBurn (or your machine's own software) still frames and runs the job.
- Always run a test on scrap material when settings or materials change.
