Turn JPG photos into an animated GIF
A GIF made from a few photos is a simple way to share a sequence: a before-and-after, the steps of a recipe, a product from several sides, or a short slideshow that plays anywhere without a video player.
- Upload your JPG photos (PNG, WebP and other pictures work too), or a ZIP of a folder.
- Set Time per picture: this page starts at 1000 ms, one photo per second.
- Choose the order: as uploaded, or by file name.
- Click Make GIF and download the result.
Getting a good-looking GIF from photos
GIF is an old format with at most 256 colours per frame. Photos have many more, so the GIF maker chooses the best 256 colours for each frame and mixes neighbouring colours (dithering) so skies and skin don't show hard bands. Most photos look fine this way at normal viewing size.
- Keep it small. The animation is limited to 800 px on its longest side by default. Photos straight from a camera are much larger, and a GIF of full-size photos quickly reaches many megabytes.
- Photos of different shapes (portrait and landscape) are fitted into one frame size, with a white border by default. Choose “Fill, crop the edges” to crop them instead, or pick a border colour under the options.
- Phone photos stored sideways are turned upright automatically.
- Want full colour? Choose animated WebP or animated PNG instead of GIF. Both play in all current browsers, and WebP is usually far smaller than GIF.
After making it
Use the GIF Compressor to make the result smaller, or the GIF Editor to reverse it, change its speed or make it loop back and forth.
