Edit an animated GIF, WebP or PNG

Upload an animation, pick the changes, and download the edited version in the same format or another one.

    Timing and order

    • Speed from 0.25× (four times slower) to 4× (four times faster). Every frame time is scaled. Browsers don't show frames for less than 20 ms, so when a faster speed would go below that, frames are dropped and their time given to the frame shown; the animation still runs at the speed you chose.
    • Play backwards.
    • Boomerang: forwards, then backwards, in one smooth loop without repeating the end frames.
    • Loop: keep it as it is, loop forever, play once, or a set number of times.

    Picture

    • Rotate 90°, 180° or 270°, and flip left–right or upside down.
    • Colour effects: black and white, sepia or inverted colours, plus brightness, contrast and saturation under More options.

All changes are applied together: colours, rotation and flips on every frame, then the order, then the speed.

    Formats

GIF, animated WebP and animated PNG (APNG) are read and can be saved as any of the three. Frames are handled fully drawn, so partial GIF frames and disposal modes never cause artefacts when the order changes. Frames stored with 0 or 10 ms delays are treated as the 100 ms browsers use.

When a GIF is saved as a GIF again, its colours are kept exactly as long as a frame's changing area has 255 colours or fewer, which is almost always the case; colour effects produce new colours, which are fitted into GIF's 256-colour limit with dithering.

    Frequently asked questions

Why do frames disappear when I speed up a GIF?

Browsers don't show a frame for less than 20 ms (shorter frames are shown for 100 ms instead). When a faster speed would go below that, some frames are dropped and their time given to the frame shown, so the animation still runs at the speed you chose.

    What is a boomerang GIF?

The animation plays forwards and then backwards, so it moves smoothly back and forth in a loop. The first and last frames are not repeated, so there is no stutter at the turns.

    Can I combine several changes?

Yes. All the changes you pick are applied in one go: colour, rotation and flips on every frame, then the order (reverse, boomerang) and the speed.

    Will my GIF lose quality?

Timing, order, rotation and flips don't change any colours, so a GIF keeps its colours exactly whenever a frame's changing area has 255 colours or fewer, which is almost always the case. Colour effects change the pixels, and the new colours are fitted into the GIF's 256-colour limit per frame.

Are my files kept on your server?

No. Uploads are deleted as soon as the job finishes, and the result is deleted automatically after 30 minutes (or immediately with “Delete now”).
