Make a boomerang GIF
A boomerang plays an animation forwards and then backwards, over and over, so a short movement turns into a smooth back-and-forth loop: a head nod, a wave, a spinning object, confetti falling and rising again.

A seamless turn
The frames play 1, 2, 3 … last, then back down to 2, and the loop starts again at 1. The last and first frames are not repeated, so there is no hitch at the turning points. A 10-frame GIF becomes an 18-frame boomerang that takes about twice as long.
Each frame keeps its own display time in both directions. If the original ends with a long pause on its last frame, that pause now sits in the middle of the boomerang; shorten it first if you want an even back-and-forth.
Speed and size
- Boomerangs often look best a little faster: combine with 1.5× or 2× speed.
- The backward half adds frames, so the file grows. Use the GIF Compressor afterwards, or save as animated WebP, if the size matters.
Other options
You can rotate, flip, or apply black-and-white, sepia or inverted colours in the same step, and save the result as GIF, animated WebP or animated PNG.
