      A reviewer without Trados Studio can't open an .sdlxliff, but anyone can work in a spreadsheet. This page turns the bilingual file into an Excel review sheet and afterwards writes the corrected translations back into the original .sdlxliff, ready to reopen in Trados.

      How to review an SDLXLIFF in Excel

      1. Upload the .sdlxliff files, or the whole .sdlppx package they came in. You get one workbook per file, or one per target language for a package.
      2. Open the Segments sheet. Each row is a segment with its ID, Trados status (such as Draft, Translated or ApprovedSignOff), match type (for example 100% TM, CM, MT or edited), a lock flag, source, target, comments and word count.
      3. Edit only the Target column. Sorting and filtering are fine; the Key column links each row to its segment, so leave it alone.
      4. To get the file back, upload the original .sdlxliff (or package) again and add the edited workbook under More inputs → Edited review spreadsheet. You receive the updated .sdlxliff with its original name.

      Tags in the spreadsheet

      Formatting such as bold or links, and placeholders such as fields or line breaks, are shown as numbers in angle brackets: a pair like <1>bold words</1>, or a single <2/>. The Tags column explains each number. You may move tags inside the sentence, but keep all of them. Each changed segment is checked first: one with an unknown, doubled, unclosed or wrongly nested tag is left unchanged and listed in the result, so you can correct that row and upload again. If a tag was simply deleted, the segment is updated but flagged, because Trados' QA check will notice it too.

      What the update changes

      • Only segments whose target text differs; every other byte of the file stays as it was.
      • The status of changed segments becomes Translated by default. Under More options you can choose Draft, Translation approved, or keep each segment's current status.
      • Locked segments are never changed, and rows with an empty Target keep their existing translation.
      • Tracked changes appear accepted in the sheet; editing such a segment replaces them with your text.
      • Existing comments stay on edited segments; new ones can't be added from Excel.

      For a package you get the updated .sdlxliff files, not a new return package (.sdlrpx).
