    Replace file

The session file (.ptx from Pro Tools 10 and later, .ptf from 7 to 9, .pts from 5 and 6), or a .zip of the whole session folder with its Audio Files folder. With the folder, the audio is checked and can be packed with the REAPER project.

    Options

Where the session folder is on the computer you will open the results on, for example D:\Sessions\My Song or /Users/me/Music/My Song. The Premiere, Logic and OTIO files then point at the audio there. Left empty, they point where it was when the session was saved. The REAPER project finds the audio when it is saved in the session folder either way.

When the session folder was uploaded as a .zip with its audio, also render every track to one WAV file (clips, fades and crossfades as edited; volume, pan and plug-ins are not applied). All files start at the same point, so they line up in Ableton Live, Studio One, Cubase, FL Studio or any other program.

    More options

When the session folder was uploaded as a .zip, also make a .zip of the REAPER project with every audio file it plays in place, ready to unpack and open.

Your files are deleted after processing.

A Pro Tools session back in Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve

Sound editors work in Pro Tools; picture editors and colorists work in Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve. When the audio edit has to come back to the picture timeline (a dialogue edit, a temp mix, a conform check), this tool turns the session into the interchange files those programs import.

    What you get

    • Final Cut Pro 7 XML for Premiere Pro (File > Import) and DaVinci Resolve (File > Import > Timeline). The sequence runs at the session's timecode rate and starts at its start timecode. Each Pro Tools track is an audio track, a stereo pair for stereo files, one track per channel for stereo or surround tracks made of mono files. Crossfades are audio transitions between the clips and fades are transitions at the clip edges.
    • CMX 3600 EDLs, one per track, with the source timecode of every clip (its time stamp in Pro Tools), clip and file names as comments, and dissolves for crossfades and fades.
    • An OpenTimelineIO file for Resolve and pipeline tools, with the exact sample positions.

    Frames and samples

XML and EDLs count whole video frames, Pro Tools counts samples. In the XML every cut moves to the nearest frame while each clip keeps its exact place in its audio file, so sync never drifts; only the cut points move, by less than half a frame. Clips shorter than one frame can't be represented and are listed. The OpenTimelineIO file keeps every sample.

    Pointing at the media

The files point at the audio where it was on the computer that saved the session. If the session folder is now on another drive or a Windows PC, enter its path (for example D:\Projects\Film\Mix) under "Session folder on your computer" and Premiere Pro or Resolve finds the files on import. Otherwise relink in Premiere Pro with Link Media.

    What doesn't come across

Clip gain, volume and pan automation, plug-ins and sends stay in Pro Tools. Video clips on the session's video track are not included; the picture is already in your editor.
