Free GIS tools: ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro maps to QGIS

Tools for people who inherit GIS projects from software they don't have: a consultant's ArcMap maps, an agency's ArcGIS Pro project, a department moving to QGIS when its ArcGIS licences end.

The MXD converter reads ArcMap documents (.mxd and .mxt from ArcGIS 8.3 to 10.8), layer files (.lyr), published maps (.pmf), style libraries (.style) and ArcGIS Pro projects, layer and map files (.aprx, .lyrx, .mapx, .pagx), and writes QGIS projects with the same layer tree, symbols, labels, scale ranges, definition queries, joins and page layouts. Upload the project folder as a ZIP and the layers point at the data inside it, so the map opens in QGIS with its layers in place.

Every map also comes with a report of its data sources (shapefiles, geodatabases, SDE connections, rasters, web services) as a spreadsheet, the layer styles as QML and SLD files, a legend picture and an overview page, which helps when a map must be rebuilt by hand or its data collected for an archive.
